Hey everyone, Am thinking about installing twallan's story progression mod, was wondering if anyone was using it? I'm pretty sure Ashleigh is, so just pondering. It appeals to me more than Indie Stone and Awesome Mod do because its not a core mod. I don't know what a core mod is, but it frightens me So yeah, any feedback?

AWMEHAWDITISAMAZINGILOVEITSOMUCH!!! Heh heh, sorry about that. I'm kind of a twallan SP fangirl, and a twallan fangirl in general. I've been using it in my game and it's incredible. I loved Indie Stone, but twallan's made so many improvements on Indie Stone. I'm a member of Crazy Town forum, where he hosts all of his mods and he's the nicest guy ever. He's constantly working on making the mod even better and he listens to people's suggestions and feedback and he's polite to everyone. What I love most about it is that it does everything Indie Stone does and more AND you can customize everything, from whether YAs and As can have romantic relations with Elders, to whether to allow teen pregnancy and marriage to whether you want your town's residents to date Service NPCs to whether you want to receive popups of what the townspeople are up to, which households you want to receive popups for and for what. You can set all of these for each individual household, too. It's just incredible. I've had no problems with the game glitching out on me or crashing since installing the mod. I got one script error once, sent it in to twallan and he said it was just an issue with the mod trying to assign a trait to a Service NPC and he's already working on a fix for that for Phase Two of the mod. It didn't harm my game at all. Basically, it just notified me that the mod couldn't do something it was supposed to do. I could continue playing my game normally afterward. It basically runs the town like a real town, which is fantastic. I was about to throw TS3 out the window until twallan and his SP mod came around. Now I can't ever go back to playing without it. I have a lot of other mods from him as well, which are also hosted at Crazy Town. I still need to add them to my Resources page. So 100% positive feedback from me! P. S: A core mod is a mod that messes with the core coding of the game. Think of it like brain surgery: it's complicated and can do wonderful things for you... but you can also die in the process if the doctor makes even the smallest error or overlooks the smallest thing. Same with your game. A non-core mod is usually an XML tuning mod. It plays around with certain files on your game, but doesn't poke its grubby little fingers into all the little holes. Think of that like getting your tonsils taken out: it makes you feel better afterward and there's a pretty good chance you won't die from the surgery. Same with your game.

I totally agree.
I was putting off upgrading to the new patch, just so that I could keep indie.
I took the plunge though, and backed up my saves, and installed the patch plus the twallan SP mod.
I've been playing a new 'hood (cause I love creating new sims and getting them from rags to riches) and it's working great. IT feels just like indie, and does seem very stable.
I have never had the issues Tiari and Ashleigh had, but then I don't download CC, and all I was running was nomosaic and indy.
I have only had two issues with the SP mod - I somehow put my house into stasis by accident, and it wouldn't go back until I restarted the game.
The other problem I had was that I accidentally mis-clicked 'set active sim' on someone outside the house ('fat fingers') which changed the active household, and lost all my locked in wishes (not LTW though thank goodness!).
I recommend the mod - so long as twallan doesn't cave to too many requests that are so unnecessary - I see people asking him for things that are just bloat, and really not in the spirit of the game (essentially cheats, or enabling cheat modes by default.). It's ironic that the people making the requests usually preface with "I don't want to install AM because it's got to much stuff I don't need, but I'd really like your mod to...". I'd be really sad to see it turn into another awesome mod -especially since it's non core, so should play nice with other mods. That's the programmer in me speaking though - I've been trained to favour modular, non dependent code. If people want small, non story progression related features, they should look for other mods, especially when other mods already exist that do the job.
--- Wait - what were we talking about again?
I found the whole process of installing the mod quite easy, just follow the instructions. While I'm an IT pro, I like to 'switch off' at the end of the day, so anything too complicated I just wont' bother.
I'm running it without any core mods (ie - the EA core - just as installed), and that's the way I'll stay. I prefer to keep my install as clean as possible, I learnt with TS1 and TS2 that the more CC and mods you install, the more unstable the game becomes.
I'd play with no mods, but I like a little realism (I don't get a censor blur around me when I step out of the shower.. ), and I got sad when my 'spares' moved away, or didn't have babies.

Since I like having a story progression mod, I'm wondering where to find this mod?
It sounds better and perhaps more stable that using Indie and Awesome together.
Can any of you point me to the site?

Brilliant, it sounds great!! Is it installed just like my other teeny tiny mods that just go in with the CC, or is it more complicated than that? Also, twallan says in his post that its reccommended to install the NRaas_WorkPusher mod as well - can anyone tell me a bit more about this? And is it this mod in the link below? www.the-isz.com/theisz/index.php?showtopic=2670Thanks for the feedback everyone I really appreciate it!

WorkPusher is just a mod that searches through your town for any Sims playing hookie from either work or school and forces them to go there. I have that in my game, too. I like it.
Yep, just extract the file and place the .package files into your Hacks folder under Program Files -> Electronic Arts -> The Sims 3 -> Mods -> Packages.
Also, yes, that is the place to get WorkPusher.

Right. Am gonna go for it. Backing up my important households (Emmettses and Haths) then going for it, using a test family first. Wish me luck!! My first SERIOUS moddage!! Thanks again for advice, its nice having a smaller community to ask about these things, makes it easier than sifting through loads of replies

Glad we could help. I'm sure you'll love twallan's SP.
In Crazy Town, we're debating on whether or not to make him Local Representative of Crazy Town (mayor's already been taken) or the Prime Minister of Canada.
I voted for the latter.

I want to install this, but I'm not sure how. I don't have a "Program Files" folder. My 'Electronic Arts' folder is in documents. Is this the right folder? Also, if it is, I don't have a 'Mods Folder' in the 'Sims 3 Folder.'
Do you even understand? I'm not typing very clearly, I suppose... But if you do undertand, please help if you can.

Bex, are you using a Mac? Wherever your base game was installed, that's where you'll find the folder for Mods. It won't be the document folder. Mine is on my C drive in Program files, but if you don't have that, then it's wherever the base game was placed. I'm not versed enough in Macs to know where that might be.

Oh yeah, I installed the mod. I'm not seeing many crashes, though there are still some when I do a lot of CAS work.
The game seems to run a tad faster, but only a tad. I think this will be the mod to beat, though, once all of the kinks have been worked out. There are only a few things I miss about Awesome Mod, but I'm willing to do without them as the rest of the mod was so ponderous.

Not a mac. I'm using a Dell inspiron 1420, if that helps at all. All my game info is in my Documents Folder, which confuses me. I will go search through my files then and see what I find...
