I recently reread the Charms (it'd been a while), and compiled a little list of my personal highlights from the series thusfar. I popped them in a comment, but I'll post 'em here too:
'Loads I’d forgotten from the earlier chapters, too. Christopher flipping out momentarily at Marylee for her snobbish ways, and his multiple freezer-based escapades, and him writing a letter to let him know that he’d cleaned up a counter! That made me laugh, surely he could have done more cleaning in the time it took him to write a note!
Second gen, obviously the devastating heartbreak that was Mandy and Josiah. Brilliantly written all round. I’ll always wonder what would’ve happened had Marcie not fallen pregnant, there could’ve been a chance for Mandy and Josiah after all. But that wouldn’t have been half as dramatic! And Marcie’s tragic end, and Christopher living for so long without Marylee. Even though his Alzheimers wasn’t the dominating storyline it was really powerful, one of the best so far imo.
Third gen can be summed up in one word, for me: PARKER. I know this is a female-oriented legacy, but he’s my favourite character by far! A model brother, son, student, husband… LoveloveLOVE him.
Fourth gen, obviously Margaret paying for her antics with Morgan’s disabilities and trying to get over her dark past. I still want to know who Morgan’s father is! While I’d obviously prefer you to come back and finish writing the Charms, if there ever comes a point where you decide that you’re not going to (heaven forbid) would you please just reveal that secret! I like the Iqbal theory, ickypants as it is.'
